It’s mix time again! This one consists of Detroit soul/r&b nuggets from my 45 collection. I was making it for one of my good friends, but this music demands to be heard!

The title of this mix refers to an Instagram hashtag used regularly by the folks at Hello Records in Detroit (which, along with Encore Records in Ann Arbor, is where a good deal of these 45s were purchased… both stores are amazing and deserve all of your money). Like the city’s longtime residents, records in Detroit have taken a beating over the years, well beyond the usual wear and tear records have had to survive elsewhere: #Detroitcondition records have survived fires, moisture, stompings, and general neglect to still be with us today, and unlike such mangled stock elsewhere in the country, they’re generally worth keeping around because the music on them is just TOO GOOD to throw away.

The tracks here are all pretty well known in the city and by collectors of this sort of thing. They are far from the rarest 45s out there, but obscurity isn’t the point. This mix is for dancing.
